Friday Favourites: The Summer series by Jenny Han

This week’s Friday Favourite is a book I love love love love. I can’t explain how much I adore these books and the trilogy its a part of. It’s how I would imagine how I would love my future kids. And as a book nerd, my books are my children. I have so many books that make me feel this way and The Summer series by Jenny Han is up there on that list.

There’s a total of 3 books in the series and I can’t isolate one of them because I love them all and as a whole, it’s a never-ending love. So my Friday Fav is not one but three books. Sorta cheating but who cares?

The Summer I Turned Pretty (Book #1)

5821978Belly measures her life in summers. Everything good, everything magical happens between the months of June and August. Winters are simply a time to count the weeks until the next summer, a place away from the beach house, away from Susannah, and most importantly, away from Jeremiah and Conrad. They are the boys that Belly has known since her very first summer–they have been her brother figures, her crushes, and everything in between. But one summer, one terrible and wonderful summer, the more everything changes, the more it all ends up just the way it should have been all along.

It’s Not Summer Without You (Book #2)

8709406It used to be that Belly counted the days until summer, until she was back at Cousins Beach with Conrad and Jeremiah. But not this year. Not after Susannah got sick again and Conrad stopped caring. Everything that was right and good has fallen apart, leaving Belly wishing summer would never come. But when Jeremiah calls saying Conrad has disappeared, Belly knows what she must do to make things right again. And it can only happen back at the beach house, the three of them together, the way things used to be. If this summer really and truly is the last summer, it should end the way it started at Cousins Beach.

We’ll Always Have Summer (Book #3)

8680278It’s been two years since Conrad told Belly to go with Jeremiah. She and Jeremiah have been inseparable ever since, even attending the same college– only, their relationship hasn’t exactly been the happily ever after Belly had hoped it would be. And when Jeremiah makes the worst mistake a boy can make, Belly is forced to question what she thought was true love. Does she really have a future with Jeremiah? Has she ever gotten over Conrad? It’s time for Belly to decide, once and for all, who has her heart forever.

Now this is definitely one of my girlier books. (I know girlier isn’t a word, just roll with it ok?) I know these books definitely won’t be some people’s cup of tea but I’m proud to love this trilogy. Because back-to-school is here for some people and are fast-approaching for others, what book should I choose for this week’s Friday Fav other than a book based on summer and love?

Book nerds, this is my last opportunity to cling onto summer and The Summer I Turned Pretty will do just that.

What makes it a favourite?

  • The romance between the characters is heart-wrenching. It makes you like love-triangles.
  • There’s a happy ending.
  • In Book 2, you get to read from Jeremiah’s POV and in Book 3, Conrad’s, so it’s not only Belly.
  • YOU WILL FEEL THE FEELS.
  • It’s original and the writing style is great.
  • Perfect for Chick Lit fans
  • The events and absolutely everything is written to perfection. It’s realistic, it’s honest and it’s real.

For a hater of love triangles, my favourite books are quite questioning huh? 😐 *laughs* I’m pretty sure I read this trilogy before I hated love triangles and when I did, I couldn’t bring myself to dislike this trilogy because it’s that good. For me, I found that I connected with Belly on multiple levels. You see her grow from Book 1 to Book 3 and it’s exactly what I’m going through right now with the self-esteem and the confidence. She is quirky and dorky and imperfect and that is what I love about her. I see myself in Belly sometimes, and because I do, it doesn’t hurt that I can sorta envision myself in her shoes with these two drop dead gorgeous men, Jeremiah and Conrad. Makes imagining everything much easy. *smirks*

That’s all I’m saying for now ’cause there will be reviews for these books coming soon, so stay tuned!

That’s my Friday Fav for this week, guys!

Keep calm and read on,

Michelle
