Every Last Breath (Dark Elements #3) By Jennifer L. Armentrout
Some loves will last ’til your dying breath
Every choice has consequences — but seventeen-year-old Layla faces tougher choices than most. Light or darkness. Wickedly sexy demon prince Roth, or Zayne, the gorgeous, protective Warden she never thought could be hers. Hardest of all, Layla has to decide which side of herself to trust.
Layla has a new problem, too. A Lilin — the deadliest of demons — has been unleashed, wreaking havoc on those around her…including her best friend. To keep Sam from a fate much, much worse than death, Layla must strike a deal with the enemy while saving her city — and her race — from destruction.
Torn between two worlds and two different boys, Layla has no certainties, least of all survival, especially when an old bargain comes back to haunt them all. But sometimes, when secrets are everywhere and the truth seems unknowable, you have to listen to your heart, pick a side — and then fight like hell…
I can’t believe it’s over!!! *sobs* It’s done. It’s ended. No more Layla. No more Roth. No more familiars. No more Caymen. No more Zayne. What am I supposed to do with my life?? *sobs louder*
^^ Literally me after I finishing Every Last Breath.
It was a great ending to Layla’s story and the trilogy itself but I do have to say I’m rather disappointed.
In this book, Layla finally chooses between Roth and Zayne. I know JLA got the fans to vote between each guy to see how much more of us wanted Layla to be with each guy.
Being on Team Roth, I was really nervous. From the way JLA wrote the other two books, no one had an idea who Layla would chose. There was a 50/50 chance for each guy. You also had no hints because it’s just Layla on the cover,
Let me tell you this, you don’t have to wait that long to see who Layla ultimately chooses.
THANK YOU JENNIFER FOR GETTING THAT OUT OF THE WAY!!!
Guys, I’m really, really, really happy with her decision!!! Now, I’m zipping my lips shut. 😉
But loving Layla’s decision doesn’t mean I loved the whole book. What bothers me is that the Dark Elements turned into “Who will Layla choose?” kind-of books. This overshadowed the whole possible world destruction that was introduced in Book 1. These books weren’t just about the love triangle but I think it became exactly that.
This may be sadistic but I think Layla got it too easy. There is obviously a HEA but I wanted turmoil! I wanted pain and suffering! I feel like, compared to JLA’s other series, Layla got lucky. I don’t think her story is over yet. She still has a lot of challenges and pain in the future that JLA won’t write. Her story ended too soon, too easy.
With that being said, the third book was extremely anti-climatic. The first two books hinted at a huge intense ending that would end with a huge BANG. In reality, it was more like bang?. As the reader, the solution to all Layla’s problems were easier than it was expected to be. I mean if these books were to end like that, then there should have been one book instead of three!
Yet again, I shouldn’t be complaining. Layla did get her happy ending and that’s better than the endings of some other books I’ve read. She got everything she wanted. Loose ends were tied and Layla’s happy.
So, I’m at ends with myself about Every Last Breath…Let’s just say I’m really happy with the ending of this trilogy. 😀
Note: It’s not like JLA won’t play with your emotions because she does and she will. There’s no doubt about it.
In my review of Stone Cold Touch, I mentioned how much I loved the familiars. Well, my familiars have this special scene that I will forever remember and hold close to my heart, Guys, this scene involves alcohol. You cannot miss out on this! Other than finding out who Layla chooses, this specific scene should make you read Every Last Breath immediately!!
But now that the trilogy is over, I can’t wait to see what’s in store for us, JLA fans.
This will forever be a favourite series of mine that I will reread multiple times. Like every series, this one has made me emotionally unstable with the ships, the feels, the decisions and the love. It has changed my life.
So, goodbye Layla. Goodbye Roth. Goodbye Zayne. Goodbye Caymen, Thor, Nitro, Fury, Thumper, and Bambi. Until the next time I read you again.
Until next time, Jennifer.
Keep calm and read on,
