Anime Review: Wolf’s Rain

Wolf's_Rain_full_942491In some distant future, it’s common knowledge that all wolves have been extinct for 200 years. However, it seems this is false as wolves have not disappeared but rather have taken human form. Kiba, a lone wolf, wanders into a city, trying to sniff out the Lunar Flowers that are supposed to lead whoever follows the scent to paradise. The source of the smell is Cheza, a girl who sleeps in what appears to be suspended animation in a lab. She and the wolves are drawn to each other, and Kiba hopes to find paradise once he finds the source of the scent of Lunar Flowers. However, once Kiba finds Cheza, she is kidnapped by a mysterious person called Darcia, and his search begins anew. Before he leaves the city, he meets 3 other wolves, Tsume, Hige and Toboe. All four wolves have very different personalities and ideas, and their friendliness towards each other is a little rough around the edges. However, they soon band together to continue to search for paradise.

I’ll just quickly inform you all that this was the very first anime I ever watched. I found it by mistake through an amv, liked the song and started wondering what the show was. Next thing you know…BAM! I’m an Otaku. There was no turning back. There’s what I needed to say, so otherwise I think I’ll start this up with talk on the plot, as always with any of my reviews I’m going to be careful about giving anything away so slightly vague.

The plot of this anime is a nicely built one, especially for an anime that truly wasn’t all that long. The problem with any short anime is a sudden bam where they’re throwing the plot at you. Not Wolf’s Rain. For this one they managed to ease it all in, sneaking in hints here and there, adding progress as we got to know the characters and having us fall in love before the emotions could hit. Not only that, but it was simple but easy plot goal. The search for paradise made by the wolves in this story. A search in which more would have to be sacrificed than they could ever imagine.

This one also becomes a heart-wrencher in that way. So yes, the feels are deep. Thanks to the progression this anime takes, you will have time to enjoy every single character for all their different quirks and personalities. There are also some beautiful and, once again, heart-wrenching ships in this anime that are unforgettable. Leading into characters, in particular I will go into detail about Kiba and leave the rest for you to decide. To me, Kiba is a strong and forthcoming leader that wasn’t quite looking to be a leader. But as one, he will protect his friends to his best abilities. He represents whole-heartedly a determination not usually found in us anymore, it was something for me to look up to.

Good luck dealing with this one once you finish watching it and I consider this one definitely worth the watch in many ways, I’ll recommend it especially to wolf lovers just ’cause. People who prefer both shounen and shoujo should be able to enjoy it, there are some strong female roles that come along too. And anyone who likes to look into the emotional or in-depth side of things like me would probably take great joy in it. Oh, and anybody in need of their dose of feels? Watch. IT. And have fun watching! ^_^

Until next time,
